MANION  DIFYR AM FFYNHONNAU

gan Howard Huws

LLANPUMSAINT, Sir Gaerfyrddin

( SN 4129)

Y mae Francis Jones yn crybwyll ychydig fanylion ynghylch ffynhonnau Llanpumsaint, ond ceir darlun llawnach yn adroddiad yr Archddiacon Edward Tenison i gyflwr Archddiaconiaeth Caerfyrddin yn 1710. Dywed a ganlyn:

There are five wells or pools in the River, which tradition says were made use of by the five saints, & that each particular Saint had his particular well. On

S.Peter’s day yearly between two & three hundred people get together, some to wash in & some to see these wells. In the summer time the people in the neighbourhood bathe themselves in these wells to cure aches. 1

Buasai’n ddiddorol gwybod pa bwll yn union a gysylltid â pha un o bum sant Llanpumsaint (Gwyn, Gwynoro, Gwynno, Ceitho a Chelynnin), ond os oedd yr wybodaeth honno wedi parhau hyd adeg ymweliad Tenison, ni chofnododd mohoni.
